Mumbai Local- a good vegetarian fine dining restaurant

written by Indrajit Lahiri January 16, 2017

I am a proud carnivore- a big time non-vegetarian beast, who gets sick even hearing of the vegetarian food. But, recently, it seems vegetarian food joints are on the rise in Kolkata- and that too good one. These joints are found by persons who take food seriously, I mean real seriously. And there’s always a keen eye on the overall food presentation. I found Mumbai Local to be one of them. I was invited there for the food tasting by the management.

Frankly, what I found, the presentation of the food items was mind boggling, simply freaky. We were served few mocktails. Now, we all know, the beauty of the mocktail lies in the layered taste and moreover, the presentation. Here, it was just that. The taste, as well as the presentation was catchy. I tasted the nimbu-pani, which had just the right amount of tangy taste.

Coming to the food, I am seriously impressed with the starters. Onion rings, taste-wise were just onion rings, rightly crispy yet juicy- but I can confirm kids would go crazy over the presentation. Shaarabi paani puri, with a little dosage of vodka was great too.

The parsi dishes, including the Soya Dhansak and Berry Pulao were great, but the best dish that we could found out was the burger combo. I looked as well as tasted great also. The baturas, hung from the cord were pleasure to look at, but probably got cold a little sooner than expected and the chana, according to my palate, was a bit dry. The showstopper for the evening were the  mini burgers- overall, definitely recommended.

For the desserts, Madh Island was a little too chocolaty (again personal opinion), but choco-lovers would love that. Rather Waffle with uttpam bater was more of my type and I loved it. Cotton candy is never among my favorite dishes,, so can’t really comment. But, presenting the same in that tree-shaped thing made it different.
