New menu at Vintage Asia, JW Marriott Kolkata

written by Indrajit Lahiri April 4, 2018

We were invited for the new menu launch in Vintage Asia, the fine dining oriental specialty restaurant at JW Marriott Kolkata. And, here’s my experience.

You can check my first experience at Vintage Asia, JW Marriott Kolkata

Those who know me, you know that I’m quite comfortable with the street food, but in these joints, I get a little baffled – what to do, how to behave, and with so many sophisticated people around, what would be the right thing to do….. But, surprisingly the Vintage Asia gave a slightly different feeling from the moment I entered. It felt less formal and more like friendly ambiance and I actually liked that. And with friends around, who really cared ?

Okay, first things first. Vintage Asia is the specialty oriental restaurant at JW Marriott, Kolkata. The decor is posh, yet sober giving it a warm feeling. But then again every biggie in this genre has that, so what’s the big deal- I asked myself. But as soon as we sat down, the tea ceremony started and I was coming to understand the difference. The difference was the famed Marriott service and it showed throughout the dining experience. The personalized service is top notch and that definitely adds on to the overall experience.

This time, after an year, finally, Vintage Asia has decided to change its menu and introduced few new items. And, we were there as usual. The good part is, the pricing in Vintage Asia is always competitive as per the quality and quantity. And here is what we’ve tasted on that evening. Now, let me warn on something. Whatever you do, once in Vintage Asia, never ever miss their Dimsums. They are definitely one of the finest in town. And, though I am a big time carnivore, the lotus stems dimsum is simply killer. And anyhow, a Steamed Vetki can’t really go wrong, especially when paired with vinaigrette and fresh chilly.

Now, please don’t get me wrong. It’s never that you don’t try other items, but these, as per me, were the showstoppers.

Chicken spicy Coriander Dimsum Rs 425

Pumpkin Prawn DimSum Rs 425

Lotus root, Chayote melon, Cashew nut Dimsum (v) Rs 395

Singapore style Mei Fun (Chicken/Prawn/Egg-Veg) Rs 775 750 725

Spicy Basil fried rice (v) Rs 725

Chiang Mai Prawn Curry Rs 1695

Chicken Lemon Grass, Thai red Chili Rs 725

Hot Pot Prawn, Basil, Garlic, Fish sauce Rs 1095

Lemon Grass chicken roll, burnt garlic Rs 715

Slow Cook Hot Pot Duck, Ginger, Spring Onion Rs 745

Steamed Bekti Fillet, Vinaigrette fresh chili, Black bean Rs 895

Just one statutory warning. Remember to have some steamed rice alongwith ….. and I’d suggest to reserve your tables before you reach there.

So, once you get great food, at a pocket friendly price, life’s definitely good.

Bon apetit !!!
