Meal on- a palateful of celebration

written by Indrajit Lahiri March 18, 2016

Firstly, apologies for the delayed posting. For last few weeks, I was actually tied up with professional assignments and postings got delayed. So, let me start with an interesting venture last month. I always dream of a spread where the starters will be from one outlet, main course from another, desserts from the third and so on….. Probably somebody else did dream of the same thing and Meal-On was found. Its a novel concept in collaboration with Telegraph T2 and powered by 91.9 Friends FM . Around 7-8 restaurants in Kolkata along with specialty sweetshops like Balaram Mullik and Radharaman Mullik and Mrs Magpie joined hands to present the ultimate gastronomic experience.

The event was hosted in the Palladian Lounge, Bengal Chamber of Commerce. Its a grand venue. And being a sunday lunch, parking was a breeze.

The coupon entitled the guests with unlimited mocktail and 3 glasses of wine (each guest) and needless to mention, the huge buffet spread. If one have a look at the menu card, it can be understood that selection is the key-word here.

Grilled chicken wrap with nolen gur sounded interesting and I started with it along with Steamed aam kasundi murgi- and both were brilliant. The phuchka (by Gabbar’s ) was served in an innovative manner and was pretty good too. Grilled vegetable skewers was decent.

I couldn’t stop at a single helping and when I realized, I was almost full. And straightaway, I attacked Bhuna Mangsho with Parota from 6 Bullygunge Place and Pork stew from Bohemian. Both were great, though I liked the pork more (probably because bhuna mangsho is a standard sunday item at our home).

Both Balaram Mullik and Mrs Magpie are stalwarts at their respective dessert segment and nobody can doubt them on that.

All in all, this was a foodie’s dream event and thanks T2 for the invitation. Not to mention, I won a few gift vouchers in the food-related quiz show being hosted there and it was the genuinely feel-good factor.
