Mex-Italiana food fest at Casa Kitchen

written by Indrajit Lahiri January 6, 2016

Being a big-time carnivore, reviewing a pure vegetarian restaurant is always a tough job. But having been in Casa Kitchen for multiple times, I can openly say, I love this place. This time, it was their Mexo-Italiana food fest. Frankly, I must say, the festival is over now and I am late, but some of their dishes from this menu is going to make it to their regular menu card. Hence, need not bother.

How to go and when to go:

Its just beside the French motors showroom near minto park. Basically, its opposite to Gorky Sadan and besides Tewari’s in that area. Enough said. Its open from 11-11 on all days. But the Mexo-Italiana Food Festival is from 10th July- 2nd August only.

Decor and ambience:

Its a fine-dining restaurant and pretty much up-market in decor. Comfortable, traditional seating arrangement and nice big windows on all sides. If you can find a seat besides the window, nothing like it.

We started off with their 2 soup varieties. Zuppa Toscana (cream of vegetable soup- asparagus with brocolli with a nice creamy texture) and veg tortilla soup. Out of these 2, frankly, I felt that the latter one resembled more of a spiced tomato soup with Tortilla. Not that it was bad, but Zuppa Toscana was something really really great. Its milder and subtlety was the keyword here. The starting went great. Just forgot to mention, Rose and white wine was served on the table, liked it.

As starters, we were served Grilled corn salad and vegetable caesar salad. These guys make a great caesar salad and I can vouch for that from their summer soiree food fest and this time also, they made it just right with the perfect amount of vinaigrette dressing. But, the grilled corn salad with the corns was brilliant and I liked it more.

then came the jalapeno and cheese stuffed mushroom balls and mashed cheese and corn balls. The mushroon balls were nice and soft- cheese was oozing out with every bite. The cheese and corn balls were a bit dry and I personally found the corns to be over-smashed. But, mushroom was seriously great. They were served with salsa, but I preferred the other condiments, Hummus and garlic Mayo…..

Now here, we needed a small break. And, as soon as we were back, the service guys started again with the main course…. We had Risotto Primavera (This one could have been a little more cheesy), Mac and cheese (the classic version and clearly the winner) and Veg Milanos (baked vegies with white sauce and baked with cheese) as Pasta. All of them were good, but Mac and Cheese definitely needed a second helping and I went for it.

Now came the Mexican gastronomic part. We were served Quesadilla and Enchilada. Frankly, I always felt them to be the mexican version of our very own stuffed paranthas, but with corn atta. Quesadilla was a little dry with mexican beans stuffed, wherein Enchilada was topped with tomato salsa and baked with grated cheese.

Finally, it was time for the desserts and as usual, I was full. So were my friends Anirban and Anindya. We were served Tiramisu (pretty good ) and Sizzling Brownie. Now, a Sizzling Brownie can never go wrong, especially with scoops of ice-cream  served on it and it was great as usual.

The meal was appetizing and we were full- too full in fact. I like something about this place that they always come out with some new and interesting food festivals- almost at regular intervals and their expert team to carry it off. That’s probably one of the reasons, they are doing really good.

If you prefer veg food someday, please visit them. You won’t be disappointed- that’s a promise.

Bon apetite !!!
