Kashmiri food festival at Oceanic, Peerless Inn Kolkata

written by Indrajit Lahiri February 10, 2017

Among the lesser known cuisines in India, Kashmiri cuisine probably reigns supreme (off course I am opinionated here…) and because of some reason, it’s extremely difficult to get other than Kashmir herself and Leh, Ladakh. Now, luckily, I’ve traveled to Kashmir (and back in one piece) but that time, I didn’t have this madness called writing on food. But this year, while going on for the biking trip in Ladakh, found some real good kashmiri food in a restaurant in Leh. Just opposite to Leh government hospital, is this joint serving us some great mutton yakhni and rogun josh. But, that’s some 8 month old memory now and I was starving for some, while this invitation came from Peerless Inn.

Peerless Inn is hosting a Kashmiri food festival (yes, you heard it right) in their Oceanic outlet till 19th February’2017 and luckily we were invited over dinner. The spread will be part of the dinner buffet over the weekdays and over lunch and dinner on weekends. Its priced reasonably at 1299/-+ Tax per person.

This was my first time in Oceanic and once we got in, it was throbbing with people. It felt really, really  good to see an outlet in a big property doing so well on a weekday dinner. The main course section of the buffet had the kashmiri dishes, while, the mandatory kebab counter and live pasta counter were there along with the salad bar and dessert counter.

Firstly, we were served the signature kashmiri tea, Kahwa, which was actually nice. Now, coming to the main course, frankly, I am not much of a vegetarian lover- but this spread had some fantastic vegetarian items. And thankfully, the meat items consisted of chicken and fish also, other than mutton.

This festival includes signature dishes like: Dhani Phool, Seekh Kebab, Shammi Kebab (Mutton/Chicken), Methi Maaz, Mutton Roganjosh,Mutton Mirchi korma, Chicken dhaniwal Korma and Vegetarian dishes like: Palak Mushroom,Munj Haaq ,Schuk Wangun,Rajmah Gogji,Moong Dal Nadru ,Bum Choont,Karela Yakhni. The buffet course will end with dessert like Kashmiri Firni, Sewiyaan and Suji ka Halwa. The Buffet spread is available from Monday to Friday for Dinner and on weekends for Lunch and Dinner.

Now, I can safely vouch for something.  Kashmiri food is something, which is very very difficult to get in the city and once it’s available, shouldn’t be missed at any cost. I thank the management to put up the effort and this offer is something not to be missed.

If you still have some time, you can check my wazwan experience in Kashmir itself …

Bon apetit !!!
