Saras Mela 2015

written by Indrajit Lahiri February 9, 2015

Saras mela is Organised by the ministry of rural development, government of India, and the department of panchayat and rural development of the state government every year in Kolkata in winter season. This is the fair that promotes handloom and handicraft products of different states from India. This year its being held in the Salt Lake, Karunamoyee ground opposite to HSBC office, karunamoyee.

How to go and when to go:

This is just 2 minutes walking distance from the karunamoyee bus-stand. Karunamoyee is heavily connected to and from all parts of Kolkata via bus and taxis are readily available. This is going on from 31st January to 12th February 2015. The fair runs till 9 Pm on every day. The fair ground is having good car-parking and toilet facilities. Hence, one need not worry. And like all fairs in Kolkata, food-stalls are aplenty.

I’ve visited the fair with family and below is a glimpse of what we found.

Thank you so much for this post. This is my favorite mela, and I used to buy spice mixes and rural foods from this mela. The spices here be it from Kerala, or Bengal, etc.. were top notch, and not the stuff you get in the market. The ghee was phenomenal too. It is one year since I left calcutta and this post made me nostalgic.
