Bawali Rajbari- ঘরের কাছে আরশিনগর

written by Indrajit Lahiri September 4, 2016

We were invited to Bawali Rajbari a few weeks back with my fellow bloggers. There was Soumya from Streets Of calcutta, Anirban Halder, Rangan, Manjit and myself representing Social Bong.

The journey is around 2.5 hours from my place, Beliaghata (Thanks to the great roads in Behala), but the transport was a royal one. We were picked up and with a good company of friends, the journey was smooth.

You can check the location on Google map here

As soon as we reached, the welcome was grand. A team of dhakis started the welcome music and with garlands, fresh coconut water and sanitizing towels, we were refreshed in no time.

The place is a heritage Zamindarbari, refurbished into a wellness resort with all modern amenities put in. A detailed history of the place can be found here. After a short break, we were led to visit the courtyard and swimming pool area, where the tea (with the option of beer) was served. The whole area was amazingly done with all the modern day travel requirements and was a treat to the eye.

A visit to the beautifully done Spa was the next. Here we saw two gentlemen presenting Rabindrasangeet. We were told, the local people are employed here and these two gentlemen came from the near locality only for the evening recreation. Next, we were taken to a short visit to a nearby place for some ruins. It was a ruin in true sense and didn’t impress us much frankly and is better to be avoided.

The rooms were spread in a huge area. Each room was tastefully done and difference category rooms were available. A small library was also available for the bookworms, but with less number of books. But, for a evening chit-chat, it was just perfect. Evening in this place is something to look forward to, as we were told, and it was… The entire thakur dalan was decorated with lights and bright and shining. There’s a cute open-air lounge bar facing the thakur dalan and it was a different experience altogether.

After a few beers, it was the dinner time. They had good chefs taking care of the department and they serve traditional bengali as well as continental cuisine. We were served the Bengali Thali. Now, with some 15 items, it’s actually difficult for one person to finish it. Food was awesome and so was the service. Sweets served, were taken from Kolkata.

Overall, it was a great experience and highly recommended for those who’re interested to spend some quality time without much noise. Booking details can be obtained via their website.

Happy weekend !!!
